James Macpherson in his article entitled “The Ayatollah’s ‘Surprise of the Century’ Turns Out to be a Fizzer” ridicules the words of the Iranian leader, who threatened Israel many times with a panful doom and writes:
“The Western press missed what was in front of their eyes: Iran had no surprise.
The emperor has no missiles.” (1)
The above quote sums up very well, despite and regardless of the author’s intentions, the magnitude of “the mortal threat”, which allegedly forced Israel to attack.
“What kind of threat” are we talking about, if Israel can walk all over Iran with complete impunity?
And so, in all reality it appears with absolute clarity, that Iran’s threats were what they were: “empty Islamic, morale-boosting rhetoric. Israel knew this perfectly well, and that is why it attacked Iran with guaranteed impunity.
Currently, despite the Iranian leader’s assurances of fighting until complete victory, Israel has secured complete air superiority over Iran in a single day, while the Iranian adversary’s missile counterattacks are mostly neutralized and cause marginal damage inside Israel.
So why did Israel really decide to attack Iran?
Of course, the first argument that is persistently mentioned is the nuclear weapon, which Iran was supposed to produce in “a few days” and only the successful attack by Israel determined that this process was “perhaps” delayed.
Additionally, the allegedly conservative main stream media at the same time suggest that the “possible war” should be led against the extremist mullahs to liberate the “poor people of Iran”. In fact the media suggest almost in unison that we should aim to liberate the Iranian Muslim folk from suppression and violence of …. wait for it – Islamic rule.
The journalists and other well-meaning pundits who write these lines seem to have forgotten about similar and utterly futile efforts to liberate “freedom-loving” Muslims from the shackles of Islam in other parts of the world, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. Unfortunately, these expert analyses sound like a “recipe for disaster” caused by self-induced amnesia, but repeated with conviction and strong symptoms of common sense deficiencies.
The true reasons for Israeli attack have been simple and sinister at the same time.
Firstly – to stop and/or delay the changes and reforms undertaken by Donald Trump for they threaten the very existence of what is known as the “deep state”.
Secondly – to force the US (possibly) into another long a futile war in the Middle East to ensure long term profits for various consulting firms and chains of subcontractors employed and paid by the American taxpayer, as it took place in previous wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Thirdly, if the two goals mentioned above do not work out, it may be possible to divide Donald Trump’s electorate and thus slow down his efforts to introduce reforms and to dismantle the “deep state.”
Currently two of these intentions failed as President Trump decided to bomb Iran and immediately suspend hostilities, forcing both sides to declare a ceasefire in preparation for a peace agreement.
Although the massive American attack on Iran’s so-called nuclear facilities and Donald Trump’s unyielding stance forced both Israel and Iran to begin negotiations, Israel’s action immediately after Trump announced the cessation of hostilities revealed that country’s true intentions and its predatory character.
And so, right after Trump announced the mutual decision on a ceasefire, Israel resumed its bombing raids on Iran, which led the president to go into a proverbial rage and use a vulgar curse at Israel.
This unusual display eventually reached the “consciousness” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the ceasefire was restored.
Ultimately, therefore, thanks to Donald Trump’s swift response and the destruction of alleged nuclear facilities on Iranian territory, the media-fueled sentiments about the alleged Iranian nuclear threat not only to Israel but also to the US were calmed down, while at the same time, the president’s firm stance on rejecting the option of “regime change” in Iran ensured that Israel’s attempt to drag the US into a long and costly conflict failed.
For now.
Just two days after the ceasefire, media articles began to appear like mushrooms after rain, asking: “Has Iran’s nuclear program really been stopped, or just slowed down? And if slowed down, for how long?”
Other media, both leftist and those calling themselves conservative, are sounding the alarm, fearing the fate of the democratic opposition to the mullah regime, which has been left to its own devices without Western support:
“Iran’s opposition faces its darkest hour
Iran’s brutal regime has arrested hundreds of political opponents — real and imagined — and the worst is likely yet to come.” (2)
– Jay Solomon, shuddering at the horrors awaiting the democratic opposition, writes in The Free Press.
This is done to re-ignite fear and concern among the general public in the US and force the Trump administration to take a position that is consistent with Israel’s interests. At least it is intended to keep the options to start the ground invasion of Iran opened for the nearest future.
As for the third intention of the Israeli government, namely to cause a split in the camp supporting Donald Trump, it has been partially achieved, although the scale of this split is still difficult to estimate.
It is clear that some of Trump’s most ardent supporters, such as Marjorie Taylor-Green, have expressed disappointment over the US airstrike on Iran, but that does not mean they will actually withdraw their support for the president.
And here we must take a step back and think seriously: Does this really concern Israel’s vital interests?
Because certainly most of the US administration’s decisions regarding Israel are not in the interest of the United States itself.
In their monograph titled “The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy”, authors John Mearsheimer and Stephen M Walt write:
“The case advanced in the article was straightforward. After describing the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the United States provides to Israel, we argued that this support could not be fully explained on either strategic or moral grounds. Instead, it was due largely to the political power of the Israel lobby, a loose coalition of individuals and groups that seeks to influence American foreign policy in ways that will benefit Israel. In addition to encouraging the United States to back Israel more or less unconditionally, groups and individuals in the lobby played key roles in shaping American policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ill-fated invasion of Iraq, and the ongoing confrontations with Syria and Iran. We suggested that these policies were not in the U.S. national interest and were in fact harmful to Israel’s long-term interests as well.” (3)
Going a step further, it can be emphasized here that the so-called “Israel lobby” constitutes in fact a part of what Donald Trump himself calls “the deep state”, i.e. a hidden state that directs US policy in order to secure the interests of a specific group of influential people who prefer to remain in the shadows themselves, so as not to arouse negative feelings and reactions towards themselves.
And here we touch on the whole essence of the problem, because the interests of this group are most often contrary to the well-understood interests of the United States, and Israel becomes one of the main tools for implementing the interests of this “hidden” or “deep state”.
The question that arises after such a formulation of the problem is whether Donald Trump is fully aware of what constitutes the essence of this “hidden state”. And although any answer to this question will be a hypothetical one, we can risk a consideration here that the president is fully aware of it, but at this stage of developments he simply cannot afford to specify this problem out loud.
Why? Since 80% of the members of Congress now have to rely on election donations provided to them by the “deep state”, an open statement exposing the scheme could mean losing majority support in Congress and ultimately derailing the reforms planned to Make America Great Again.
In the next episodes of this series, I will try to outline in detail the mechanisms of this hidden process, its scale, history, and also the groups and individuals behind it.
