According to multiple media reports Interpol has arrested an individual, Yoel Alter, identified as the alleged ringleader of one of the largest child trafficking networks in the world.
Surprisingly, mainstream media coverage of this arrest has been very limited indeed, raising questions about their priorities and their willingness to expose the global human trafficking crimes.

Yoel Alter is a 35-year-old man (born ca 1990) who holds Israeli-Romanian dual citizenship. He is known primarily as a senior member and leader within Lev Tahor, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect founded in Israel in the late 1980s by Shlomo Helbrans. The group, whose name means “pure heart” in Hebrew, has around 200–300 members and is frequently described in media and reports as a controversial sect or cult due to longstanding allegations of various, dangerous, sexual practices.

Lev Tahor has faced frequent accusations over the years, including child abuse, forced underage marriages, sexual exploitation of minors, kidnapping, and human trafficking. The sect has moved multiple times (from Israel to the US, Canada, and various Latin American countries) reportedly to evade authorities and law enforcement investigation.
Yoel Alter has been wanted in Mexico since 2022 on charges related to human trafficking and organized crime, specifically for allegedly arranging illegal marriages of underage girls to adult men within the group.

In late January 2025, Interpol coordinated with Guatemalan authorities to arrest him (at age 35) in Guatemala City, outside a government center for minors. He was wearing the sect’s characteristic long grayish cloak at the time of arrest.
Following the arrest, he was extradited to Mexico, where prosecutors indicted him on those charges. Reports from late 2025 and early 2026 confirm the extradition and ongoing legal proceedings.

This arrest occurred amid broader crackdowns on Lev Tahor in Guatemala, including operations that separated over 140 children from the group citing severe abuse risks (including rape allegations). Alter was described in some reports as a high-ranking figure in the sect.
Lev Tahor continues to face scrutiny in multiple countries, but Alter’s specific status connects him to the Mexican proceedings. The exact real-time prison location details aren’t publicly specified in available reports (likely for security reasons), but he remains detained in Mexico awaiting trial on the serious allegations. This report is based on the latest documented developments.
